Things are Looking Up!

When I woke up this morning, I felt h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e!  Why is it that I always get sick on holidays or weekends??  Anyone else with me?  I guess, maybe, it might be that I actually slow down enough on those days for it to hit me.  Ugh.  Not how I wanted to spend my day off.  And, then I remembered that not everyone had today off.  I guess I should be thankful for that!  I was a bit surprised at all of you who were saying you didn't have the day off.  I was born and raised here in South Carolina and schools have always been closed on Election Day for as long as I can remember.  I guess it may have to do with the fact that a lot of schools and churches are used as polling sites.  Those of you who were in school today, where do you vote?  It's funny how we I always assume things are done the same way everywhere!

Kind of reminds me of thinking things are the same for TEACHERS everywhere.  I'm always amazed to hear of teachers who don't have to take their students to lunch or recess, or who have planning periods (specials) every day, or who don't have morning and afternoon duties.  I find it fascinating to hear about the differences in responsibilities from state and state.  ANYWHO....

I managed to drag myself out of bed around 9:30 (yes, a whopping 4 hours later than I normally do) so I could shower and head to the polls.  It took about an hour (not too bad), but I got my little "I Voted" sticker.
That was important.  Our principal is letting us wear jeans tomorrow (a major rarity) if we have that little sticker.  Needless to say, it is still on its backing...I was afraid it would fall off and I would loses it if I actually wore it today!  I also got a bracelet from Starbucks.  They usually give these with a donation of $5 or more, but many locations were giving them out today.

When I got home, I had a little package on my door and well, things started looking up!  It was my Zoey Crossbody from Grateful Bags!  Hip Hooray!!!  I probably would have gotten a lighter monogram (gold, maybe?) had I not been getting it for gameday, but I needed a little garnet and black, baby! ;)  I think I will have to break down and buy myself (instead of relying on the hubs to pick up on all of my hints) the Maggie Tote and will get it with a gold block monogram so I can switch them out - gotta love a little mix and match. :) I'm even more in love with this little bit of happy now that it's in my hands.  The quality is amazing and I love the zippered pockets, both inside and on the back.  If you want a little bit of happy, it's not too late to win a Grateful Bag in my giveaway!

After things started looking up my little happy arrived on my doorstep, I started to feel a little better (imagine that!) and decided to hit The Loft since they were having a spend $100 save $50 sale....plus 10% more off with your Loft Card...plus savings cards!  I mean, I couldn't miss out on that kind of deal.  And then it was off to my hair appointment...did I mention things were looking up?  This was turning out to be good day after all, especially since my medicine was kicking into full gear!

Now, that I'm feeling a good bit better I think I'm going to settle in to watch the election results and maybe be a little more productive on the school front.  I'll be back tomorrow with a Budding Blogger, so be sure to stop by and check it out!

Here's to hoping things are looking up for our country soon, especially the economy, no matter who wins the election tonight!

  1. In my state, we have school on election day, and many schools are polling places! When my previous school was a polling place (before it moved to a church), we always had to remind kids to be on their best behavior because of all of the community members in the building.

I LOVE Loft! I think that 75% of my school wardrobe is made by them! And we have a new outlet store about a half-hour away. Dangerous!

And I wear jeans to work about twice a week. None of the three principals that I've had seemed to care as long as we looked professional, ie. clean jeans with no rips/tears and no thongs showing ;)

    Glad you're feeling better!

  2. The kids didn't have to come to school today in my district but it was an inservice day for me. Meetings all day. Ugh! Our schools are used for polling places so I guess that's why.
Glad you are feeling better! I find the differences in schools fascinating too.

  3. I think it's neat to hear how other schools work as far as duties and that sort of thing! I have to eat with my students each day. :/

  4. Happy to hear you're feeling better. I am fascinated that you can't wear jeans on a daily basis. I LIVE in mine…I don't know what I would do if I couldn't. Yikes!! I am like you and the others when it comes to how other schools run…always curious when I hear the major differences. As far as Election Day…yup, always in school never a day off. This year my polling place is our neighborhood clubhouse. Sometimes it's in a school or even someone's garage depending where you live. Crazy stuff I tell ya!

  5. I love your blog! I am very new at this, but yours is one of my inspirations! We had school today, I can wear jeans (traditionally) once a week, I have a special everyday and a double special every Wednesday, I don't have to eat lunch with my kiddos, but I do have to do recess duty once or twice a week, depending on the rotation, I have to do bus duty everyday, but I do get paid a little extra for that :). I am not sure if I am set up to receive replies by e- mail, I am such a newb ;).

We held a mock election in our class and in our building! BTW....I was hoping for #24 to get a win but there is alwasy next Sunday! Have a great time at the game on Saturday!

  8. I am originally from South Carolina, so I especially love your blog. (I moved to Kansas with my family when I was 16.) Here in Kansas, they use churches and other public buildings for voting, but not the schools. Therefore, we have school. :) We have at least 40 minutes of plan every day, and we don't have before or after school duty unless you are signing up for a paid duty. At our school, we can wear jeans on Fridays if we pay a dollar. That money goes into a pot that can then be used for the staff during a special function or for someone in need of assistance. There are some other days that we are allowed to wear jeans, like assembly days or red ribbon week, but it is not often. Professional dress is highly encouraged. However, my sister has told me that in Kansas City the teachers wear jeans every day. ??!! Glad you are feeling better. Being sick is no fun!
