I was super excited to have completed several projects for Monday Made It this week, but one of them was not quite finished yesterday morning when I posted. So, I just had to squeeze it in here to share with you! I have a corner classroom which means 2 full walls of windows along the top of my classroom. For my Hollywood-Theme I had red draped curtains with gold stars.
I loved them! Especially because they were a "NO SEW" project. I just purchased red fabric, hot glued it up there (yes, without hemming it!), and draped it on my hooks (3M hooks spray painted gold with gold stars attached to the front).
I knew these curtains were not going to match my new Monster Theme but I did NOT want to make new ones...and without draping, I would probably have to sew (at least hem). UGH!
Then, I saw these adorable buntings popping up everywhere {lightbulb moment!} I would create a bunting using my main classroom colors - red and turquoise! So, I went to Hobby Lobby {shocker!} and found red canvas, turquoise canvas, polka dot canvas, red striped cotton, and a turquoise swirly cotton. I also purchased a foam pennant which I would use as my guide! After measuring my windows and cutting out enough pennants to stretch across the area, I was set!
Or, was I? How would I attach these to the windows? At first, I thought of ribbon...but that would get expensive. My husband pushed me toward rope, but that wasn't really my style.
Enter - DUCT TAPE!! I figured it would give me the same look as red ribbon (from a distance), but it would be super cheap and VERY EASY to attach to the wall.
Excuse the mess of a million projects going on in there!
This shows that you can see through to the light fabric a bit, but it's not that noticeable from a distance. If it really ends up bothering me, I'll just add another layer of tape. :)
So that's what I did - my NO SEW, NO GLUE bunting! Easy peasy and super cute! (At least, I think so!) *Tip: I worked in sections of 3 pennants.*
Now, for my 500 Follower Giveaway!! THANK YOU to each and every one of you for being a follower and sharing your ideas and comments with me. I know that this school year is going to be enriched because of each and every one of you!
To celebrate 500 Followers...I'm giving away a....

There's No Place Like Second Grade
Love, Love, Love your room. I am so envious of all of the teachers out there who are free to make their rooms warm and cozy and inviting. The district I work in got into a bit of a power struggle with the fire marshalls several years ago and now we are extremely limited with what we can put in our rooms. I'm actually surprised they let us put kid in there....LOL
ReplyDeleteYour bunting turned out so cute :) Thanks for having another giveaway and congrats on 500 followers. That is so exciting! If I win, I would use the gift card for new books for my classroom and school supplies.

Hi! What an awesome blog. I've spent the past hour or so looking at things on teaching blogs and yours is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a $50 Amazon gift card, I would probably use it on things for my family. I know, I know...I should use it for my classroom...but since I'm really struggling with money, I'd probably buy cleaning supplies and maybe even some food. I have free shipping, so it would really help out my family. $50 is $50 :)
I would buy some math manipulatives
ReplyDeleteI would buy some things off of my enormous wish list!
ReplyDeleteWith $50 I would purchase more books for my Author Studies. That way I wouldnt have to rely on the library having them when I needed them. I also might splurge and buy a book or two for myself. :) Thanks for the giveaway! Super cute blog. ( Love the red and turqoise!)

I would probably spend it on books or other goodies for my classroom
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I too am a new blogger and am loving the connections I'm making! I would love to spend the gift card on new books for my classroom. This will be my first year in First Grade (moving from Third) and it will be my state's (NC) first year implementing Common Core. There's a great list of picture books that align and integrate directly with new Common Core standards. I would love to be able to stock up on as many of those as possible to incorporate in my lessons! :)

ReplyDeleteoops, forgot to say what I would spend $50 on....hmmmm. That is a tough question. I have a hard time spending money on myself so I would probably use it for things for my family....or maybe fabric to make something for my family....or books, books are always good.
ReplyDeleteWow!! It is amazing how fast your blog has grown! Congratulations!! I would definitely spend the amazon gift card on books:)
