First Field Trip of the Year

Am I the only one who is worn out by field trips? I'm not even sure why since my wonderful chaperones did all the work....must have something to do with riding the bus. ;)  Today we visited the urban community by traveling to our downtown area.  We have the students complete a Scavenger Hunt in small groups (with chaperones being the recorders).  It's a good chance for them to explore the businesses and historical aspects of this area.  (Click the image below to view)

At the end of the scavenger hunt, students are encouraged to look for the 9 bronze mice statues that are hidden along our Main Street.  You can read more about the Mice on Main here - they came about from a high school student's school project spawned from the book Goodnight Moon - such a neat addition to our downtown!  We also make sure to read the Mice on Main book in class before or after the trip.

After the scavenger hunt, we met at Falls Park and had a picnic lunch.

Then, we walked to the Peace Center for a theatrical performance.

 Today we saw The Ugly Duckling.  I was a little worried about it being too young for our kids, but it was terrific!  The lights were out the entire time because the costumes were like a "light show"...there was no speaking at all - only music.  The children were captivated, laughing, and applauding the entire time!  It was a fun trip!

Then, once we arrived back to school I got an email from a colleague asking if I had achieved renewal of my National Board certification.  WHAT?!!?  I completely forgot that results were released!!  How busy does that tell you I've been this week?  GEEZ!  I immediately got on my computer and checked (holding my breath) and was relieved to see....Your certification is valid through 2022!  YAY!!

While I felt like coming home to celebrate, I instead opted for a little nap.  Remember, that bus ride?  Yeah...gets me every time!  The hubby and I did go to my favorite Mexican restaurant for a little celebration later, though.

Then, I came home to get my outfit ready for school tomorrow.  It's the 50th day of school and typically our school asks everyone to dress up in 50s attire for this.  BUT, this year they have declared it "Decades Day" and they're letting everyone choose to dress in their favorite decade's attire.  Of course, I will be dressing in 80s attire...complete with crimped hair!  It's really sad how excited I am about this. ;)  I can't wait to see all of my kiddos....they've been talking about afros and bellbottoms all week!  I'll definitely post a picture during Flashback Friday tomorrow!  Stop back by to check it out, along with lots of activities from my first week back of full-time teaching.  I've got lots of pictures and even a video for you!
