Sundays in the South: In International News...

I have been plugging away at lesson plans and classroom setup activities this week.  I honestly don't know if it will be finished in time....too many ideas and so little time!  I'm working away on my Word Study plans for the year today (7 weeks down....about 25 to go!) since yesterday was not productive on the school front.  I had to take some time off to spend with Mr. Madden since it was his birthday.  And, not just any birthday...a BIG one! :)  I had major plans to make it spectacular, especially since he is KING at making birthdays special (see 35 presents for my 35th birthday...and, yes, he wrapped them all in coordinating paper),
but as the day drew closer, I realized that he just wanted a day of relaxation...so that's what we did!  And, today I'm able to work away because he is outside trying to install his birthday present (a "brain" (factory navigation/sirius/ipod player, etc) into Frank (his FJ Cruiser))...I'm thinking it's going to take days!  There are seriously a BILLION wires!

Can I just take a moment to say how much the month of August kills me!  Our anniversary is July 31 and both of our birthdays are in August!  Plus with the stress of back to school....I feel like I spend the entire month eating!!!  Cakes, treats, special dinners out....ugh...I gain 10 pounds just thinking about it!  I'm trying to stick to my gym schedule, but it's so hard with the busy pace of this month!

I did get some SUPER exciting news in an email on Friday.  Check out this email that I received...

Dear Mrs. Madden,

Congratulations! Mary Beth Scumaci featured your website on the International Reading Association's online magazine, Reading Today Online, as part of a series from the Technology in Literacy Education Special Interest Group (TILE-SIG). Thank you for all you do for literacy.

We'll be posting about it on Facebook and Twitter, so feel free to share/retweet!
Wow!!  My little old class website went international!  I'm pretty sure they probably chose it back when it was all decked out in its Hollywood glitz and glamor!  As of right now, it's kind of a hodge podge of Hollywood and Monsters, which makes me feel a little bad.  Had I only known I was going to be featured, I would have moved finishing my website on up on the "to-do list."  They even gave my blog a shout out in the article!  Woot!  Woot!

In other exciting news, I'm linking up with Elizabeth for a fabulous find for the week.  I've been wanting a skin for my school laptop for quite sometime since it's so BIG and UGLY.  Well, I got an email from Zazzle (I order ALL of my phone cases from them) that I could get 50% off a laptop skin to match my iphone cover!  It showed a cute picture of a yellow chevron one (since I have that phone case) and I thought, sure...why not!  But then, when I got on their site and started looking around, I found this:
A red and turquoise chevron skin!!  To match my classroom!!  LOVE...I even got it personalized (that's free) with my name.  It was only $16 with the 50% off deal.  They have a TON of cute ones...this one was precious, but just didn't match my classroom -
I highly recommend Zazzle for iphone cases.  They have some REALLY ugly ones, but if you search you can find super cute ones, too!  Once you order from them, they send you 50% off deals all the time...that's they only way I buy my cases now.  I know a lot of people like the OtterBox for iphone, but those are just too bulky for me.  I want protection, but I want to keep it slim.  If you change your selected case to "tough case" they'll send you a rubber shell that goes on your phone first, and then your case that slips on over that.  It's great protection (I've dropped mine several times and NO DAMAGE), yet minimal.

See you tomorrow for Monday Made It!!

  3. Congrats on the website recognition. I think I have actually visited your website before I followed your blogging site but never knew it was you. Wondering about the phone cases. Do the rubber part cover the front too or just the back? I love the colorful case you picked good choice.

  7. The rubber part of the cases extends to the front edges a bit so that if it's dropped it lands on the rubber instead of directly on your phone! I have dropped it on asphalt getting out of my car and it landed face down, but the rubber edging saved it! Well worth the few extra bucks for the "tough" version of the cases!
