Budding Blogger Showcase: The 2nd Grade Surprise

WOW! This has been the busiest week ever around here and somehow Wednesday totally slipped by without showcasing a wonderful budding blog....and I have a GREAT one for you this week!  Not only is she a fellow 2nd grade teacher AND a fellow South Carolinian, but she teaches in my district!  How cool is that...hopefully our paths will cross one of these days (soon)! ;)

Be sure to read on and then drop by to visit her fabulous blog and become a follower. :)  You know I must think she's incredibly fab since I'm letting her post CLEMSON pics on my blog! ha

Hello, friends!

I am so excited to be featured on Amanda's blog.  She is such a talented teacher, isn't she!?! :-) First,
my name is Jeannie and my blog's name is The 2nd Grade Surprise.  I am a 2nd grade teacher in South Carolina.

The 2nd Grade Surprise

Here's a little bit about me:

Personal Info:  I have been married for almost 4 years to my high school sweetheart.  In February we will have been together for 10 years.  Crazy, but I couldn't imagine being married to anyone else. In January we welcomed a son into our family. Brayden is 9 months old. He is growing up way too fast!

I love sports, especially football.  My favorite team is the Clemson Tigers!  I also love to read when I get a chance, but with an active little boy I don't get much alone time.  That's okay with  me though! :-)

Grade I teach: I teach 2nd grade.  This will be my 4th year teaching, but my 3rd year teaching 2nd grade.  My first year, I taught 5th grade.  I can honestly say, 2nd grade is where I am suppose to be.

My Favorite Subject to Teach: I love to teach reading.  I get so excited when I see that my love for reading is instilled in my little ones. There are so many great things to do when teaching reading.  Literacy centers are my favorite.

What you would see if you popped in unannounced: Whole Brain Teaching.  My good friend, Ginger from Ginger Snaps Treats for Teachers, went to the WBT conference this summer and shared her awesome findings with me.  If you haven't heart of WBT, go to YouTube and check out the videos.  It has made such a difference in my classroom.

What gets me through one of "those" days: BRAYDEN! I know that I get to come home to a smiling little boy.  One smile just melts my heart and makes my bad day go right away.

One teaching resource I couldn't live without:   Activotes.  I loved using technology in the classroom when I can.  My students love to use Activotes.  There are so many things that you can do with them and your students are completely engaged.

My Teaching Style:  I use centers as much as I can.  I do centers in both math and reading.  I feel that you can get on each child's individual level through centers and make sure that they are understanding the concepts.  My students love going to centers.  They are my favorite time of the day!

My Blogging goals:  I hope that I can share some ideas with all of the other wonderful teachers out there that can be useful in their classrooms and gain a new blogging friend or two. :-)

Come and visit my blog when you get a chance.
Thanks so much for sharing about yourself with us, Jeannie!  Now, everyone hop on over to her blog to keep up with her classroom throughout the year!

  1. Thank you, Amanda! I hope our paths cross as well, soon! Another, Carolina blogger meet up possibly!?! :-) Thank you for showcasing new bloggers. This is a wonderful idea, and I am so honored that you let me be a part of you wonderful blog.

I saw that you were a Gamecock fan, so I had to put some Clemson stuff on. I'm working on a Clemson vs. Carolina election packet, that I'm really excited about. We've already had debates in my room. :-)
