Since my blog is brand-stinkin' new, I have soooo many thoughts about what to write swirling around in my head! I know I need to post about something other than my new monster theme (because while I'm so excited about it I can't sit still, I know most of you could care less!) ;) But, should I write about the other things going through my head - common core, lesson plans, classroom organization, reading with genre studies, writing workshop...it's so hard to decide and I'm really trying to limit myself to ONE blog post per day. I'm sure if I posted more than that it would royally annoy someone (or everyone)! And so, that leads me to today's post. While I try to decide what to post next, today I'm linking up with Jessica over at Mrs. Stanford's Class about Blogging Pet Peeves! This is my FIRST link up, so here's to hoping I'm doing it right!
When I first read her post, I instantly knew my #1 pet peeve, and, well, it seems to be universal in that it's everyone's #1 pet peeve - that "Are you a robot?" word verification thingy!! As I've immersed myself in the blog world this week, I've visited A LOT of blogs and I HATE those things!? Why in the world would someone want you to prove you're not a robot? Do we hate robots that much? As I read on someone's blog, who cares if you're a robot - we love everyone, including robots! Hehe
Then, in a moment of panic, I thought - oh no! What if I have that and just don't know it?? Guess what, I did!!!!!! PLEASE go check to see if you're preventing the robots from posting to your page and annoying all of your blog stalkers! What the Teacher Wants has a great tutorial on how to do this.
My other pet peeves are the same as many - fonts that are too tiny to read or blend in with the background, or that use a cute, fancy {but extremely hard to read in a paragraph} font. Let's be real, most bloggers are on the computer for hours at a time - let's be easy on the ol' eyes!
Another one that annoys me is the "Your comment will be visible after approval." REALLY?? We all want instant gratification {and to know our comment went through successfully}. Let's trust that the robots are only writing acceptable comments on our blogs.
So, that's it! Those are my pet peeves from my few days of blogging. What are yours? Am I doing any of them? Maybe you just want to give advice for those of us who are new to the blogging world so we avoid YOUR pet peeves from the start! I'd love to hear any and all advice!

Thank YOU for your link up! You're going to allow the robots to take over the world, one blog at a time! :)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and TOTALLY agree with your pet peeves! Now we are going to have to go back and see if we are discriminating against robots ourselves!!

Cute blog and welcome to the blogging world. I always hate the robot verifiers and until reading What a Teacher Wants post, I never realized that I had it on my blog either. I quickly changed it and have seen an increase in my comments because of it.

I completely agree with that robot thingy. I have so many problems when I try to read those letters. UGH! A robot probably could read it better than me.
ReplyDeleteHey Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you found my blog today! Your new blog is adorable! :-) I'm a new follower! Hoping you noticed I didn't have the ROBOT verification thing going. I got rid of that thing immediately! A lot of people just don't know how to do it, so thanks for sharing! :-)

You have such a cute blog and personally, I think you should post all about the monster theme. I have been debating it. I would love to see what it looks like in action. I also agree you should write about all that other stuff too. But then again, if you look at my blog you will see I write about whatever pops into my head at the time.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to bloggyville!!

You would be surprised at rude things people will comment! I am firm advocate of moderating comments, but I do wholly agree with all of your other peeves! =)
ReplyDeleteOh, I can imagine Ginger Snaps! I will be closely monitoring the comments for any RUDE robots! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog design and can't wait to read more of your posts. I hope the robot is turned off on mine. I remember doing it a while back but you never know. Will you check?

Haha okay so I've got to admit that as a new blogger, a lot of these things didn't bother me before, but now everytime I go to comment on a blog and the robot thing comes up, I think "This person needs to go see Amanda at Teaching Madness." lol
ReplyDeleteHeehee... It's probably because I never wear my glasses so I have to try those blasted things a billion times to get them right! ;)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog. I am your newest follower. I found your blog on the pet peeves Linky party.
