Sundays in the South: I Sell Gold!

Sundays in the South make me think of going to church to get your toes stepped on, home cooked meals at your mama's house, sittin' for a spell on the front porch drinking sweet tea or lemonade, and taking a long afternoon nap on the screened porch.  Sundays are definitely a day of rest around these parts, so I thought I would make my Sunday posts the one day when I take a break from "teacher stuff" and post on a little more personal level.  I just love when I get a glimpse into the personal lives of the bloggers I makes them feel like they're really friends {not just bloggy friends}, know what I mean? that I think about it, this was probably not the best week to start "Sundays in the South" since this week didn't have that much going on to share about!  Let's see...I started this thing called a teaching blog (hehehe).  I did get to spend a lot of time with the hubby.  He has cut back his work schedule to 3 days a week during the summer so we can spend more time together.  This is super nice since he works on Saturdays during the school year so our only day together is Sunday {lazy day}.  I also had dinner with some of my favorite girls this week, which is always nice!

The highlight of my week was that I sold some gold!  You know those "We Buy Gold!" places, right?  Do you have them on every corner now like we do??  Well, my sister said one of her friends took some gold and sold it and got WAY more than she expected.  So, my sister took some old gold necklaces and....she was extremely happy, too!  Apparently the value of gold is really high right now?  Well, I mentioned this to my husband and he was like, "Hey, I have some gold necklaces from the 80s." WHAT?  Where have you been storing those? know what, I think I do, too.  Yep, you know those really tacky gold necklaces that were so hip back then...
Well, if we didn't pull those suckers out for our 80s party last Halloween, it was a safe bet that we weren't ever going to pull them out.  So, we decided to go see what we could get for them!  But, I wasn't too keen on going to one of the "We Buy Gold" know the ones that have the girl dancing on the side of the road in a bikini, wig, and cowboy boots waving around the big sign.  Yep, for some reason I'm just not trusting those people.  So, we decided to go to a jewelry store that airs commercials about buying gold.  I figured they would offer us maybe a hundred bucks, two if we were lucky.  Maybe we would go get other quotes, maybe we would just forget it.  So, we walk in and he takes our gold (we only took a few pieces that held no sentimental value and were just useless to us),  First, he tested them all and sorted them into groups of 10K, 14K, 18K and then weighed them.  Then, he did some calculations and gave us a quote...$788.  SAY WHAT??  For something that was just collecting dust in a drawer?  We were free to accept the money or take our gold back - yep, we took the money!  They paid us cash - it was that easy!  Teachers are ALWAYS looking for funds to buy stuff for their classroom (at least, I know I am!), so, if you have any tacky 80s gold laying around, you might want to go cash it in while gold is so valuable!

Well, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to everyone.  I'm off to go to my daddy's church to listen to him preach, then to cookout at my parents' house, sit on the porch and sip lemonade, then back for an afternoon nap on the screened porch.....just another Sunday in the South!

Tomorrow I plan to post about teaching reading through genre studies!  Don't forget about my 100 Followers Giveaway that ends Saturday!

And, if you have any great summer book suggestions, I'd love to hear them!  I'm looking for "take your mind off of teaching" types of books!  I've already read the Fifty Shades series {blush}, Divergent and Insurgent {highly recommend if you like The Hunger Games}, and Betheny Frankel's Skinnydipping {love her one-liners!}  I'm usually not the romance/smut type of reader {Grey was an exception}...I lean more toward suspense/mysteries, but I'll give anything a try if it comes highly recommended!

Oops - almost forgot!  Can't end my Sundays in the South post without giving a BIG SHOUT OUT to the boys from the South on that awesome game last night!!!  Way to pull the upset again GAMECOCKS!!  Here's hoping to a 3-peat on our national title!
