Monster-ously New Mini-Offices

I am very sluggish this morning...maybe it has something to do with all of this rain and gloom.  I am so ready for the bright sunshine to return and bring back my 90s...I love it HOT!  I just have to share another cute monster project {surprise, I know!}  I've always used mini-offices for privacy for my students since they sit at tables instead of desks.  I also use them as an educational resource for my students and have altered them many times in the past - including resources for all subject areas, just writing folders, etc.  I knew I was going to need to make new ones for the coming year {my current ones had a great 8 year run!}  My students use these EVERY DAY for privacy but, let's be honest, they didn't always use them as the resource I had hoped.  What they DID use often were the dictionaries and trashcan thesauruses from their writing folders!  So, I decided that I would put those things at their fingertips and use the offices as a word wall/thesaurus resource, and of course, I had to monsterize them!  I think they turned out pretty cute!

I'm confident they'll use them to find how to spell words or to replace plain words with "fancier" words to use when they're writing!  I created them by gluing two green file folders together and then cutting the head shape out of green file folder to glue on.  Then I just added the polka dots by sticking on yellow dot stickers.  I cut the white for eyes/teeth out of construction paper and drew on the black for the mouth/eyes.  Easy peasy!  I can imagine creating these for lots of classroom themes...frogs, bees, even a marquee at the top for a Hollywood theme!

My plan for the rest of today is to get some cleaning done around here {geez, I can't wait forever on that cleaning fairy to appear as I blog away!} and to finish transforming my classroom stool from Hollywood to Monsters!  I'm waiting on the first coat of paint to dry as I type....hopefully, I'll have it finished by tomorrow!

  1. This is so awesome!! I am in love with this. I made some file folder offices for my kids a while back but they aren't anywhere near as cute as these are! Thanks for sharing!

  7. I love this! How cool :) Sometimes I wish I taught younger grade levels just to be able to do artsy crafts like this! But, alas, I teach 5/6 grade and they are not much for cutesy themed things. :) I do however love the idea of the Mini Offices and will have to create something like this for my students!

I'm your newest follower and also a new blogger! Enjoy reading your entries :)

  15. I just bought these to make my own from your website! I love this idea! I have a word wall in my room but it takes up so much space that the words are really too small for students to see at their desks. This is a great way for my students to have everything they need right in front of them! Thanks!

  24. Thanks, Lesa! That stool was passed down from another teacher, but I saw some similar unfinished wood stools at Target not too long ago.
