1) If you missed it, I finally got a Monday Made-It completed this week for my hall display at school. Thanks to Michael's for the wooden frames and Mr. Madden for painting them for me. :)
2) While I was at school hanging my new lovely frames this week, I decided to try to tackle my door. It's awful. I think we have a "no tape" policy on doors, but I kinda-sorta never follow those types of rules. Well, that means my door is a hot sticky mess! I've tried everything (including muscle) to get the sticky residue off but nothing ever worked. I even broke out my Goo Gone (which I swear by) but nope....it didn't do the job either.
Well, I was unpacking some bags I had dropped off earlier in the summer and I found these wipes that I had stumbled upon at Lowe's. Have you seen them? Get them! Now!
With just a few wipes and no muscle at all....my door was sparkling!
You can see the yucky residue in the first pic of my door...it was really bad in person! And, then, voila - it was gone!
3) I also made my first day of school, happy-birthday-to-the-teacher-treats for my kiddos. They would be great for handing out to the kiddos on their own birthdays, too! Cheap, simple, and sweet! I love it!
4) I've been working on getting all of my students' folders ready this week! Yep, I'm THAT teacher. The one that buys all of their folders so that they match and I can have them ready beforehand. Do you do that, too??
On my very *LONG* to do list is to revamp and bundle all of the resources I use in my students' writing folders. It is pretty close to the top of my list, though, so maybe...possibly....this weekend?!
5) Do you know Katie from Queen of the First Grade Jungle? If not, hop over and take a visit. I'm in love with her new blog design. :)
Katie has just moved to the great state of South Carolina and she has also moved to 2nd grade!! We're teaming up for a great little giveaway for you busy 2nd grade teachers!
Congratulations #29, Erika!!
What will you win, you ask? You will win Katie's "Busy Teacher's Best Friend: Back to School 2nd Grade Edition" and my "2nd Grade Morning Work PowerPoints Unit"! These resources will save you SO much time...and that, my friend, is priceless as a teacher!
OH my what two great products! As a fellow 2nd grade teacher I would love to win these! 2nd grade is the best grade to teach because they have a sincere love for their teacher and for learning! And they haven't developed that "I'm too cool for school" attitude yet ;)
ReplyDeleteLindsey - lmburto@gmail.com
I would love to win either of these products! I also teach 2nd grade. My favorite thing about 2nd grade is teaching my kiddos reading. They are finally at the point where they are connecting all the sounds and making deeper connections. I especially love those kids that always think it is so magical. It never fails to make my day.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about second grade is that they become very independent but still love all of the teacher's love and attention. :) bforbes89@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI teach K-5 resource room and 2nd grade is my favorite grade to use as a focal point to tie all my students needs together, especially when I am teaching multiple grades in the room at the same time! The 2nd grade common core standards help me define where some students are going and where some are coming from as I look at individual needs.
ReplyDeleteP.S. My best friend is the 2nd grade teacher!! She has the MOST positive attitude and love for her kiddos.

I teach 2nd grade in Northern Idaho and I have been teaching 2nd grade for 14 years and I love it! I love that they still love the teacher and that reading becomes exciting for them! They realize their strengths and want to continue to hone those skills that they learned in 1st grade. I was asked to move to 3rd a couple years ago and I said nope, 2nd grade is in my heart!

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure both of those are already on my "wish list" so to win them would be fantastic! I have been teaching 2nd grade for 7 out of my 8 years teaching-and for me, the best is how they have a little bit of independence but still LOVE school and think their teacher is amazing! It makes going to work so much easier knowing that the kiddos love you and want you there!

Oh my gosh, I would love to win this!! This will be my first time to teach second grade and if that weren't enough....we are moving!!! I have boxes EVERYWHERE!!! Oh yeah, and my son turns 13 Sunday so, in the new house with boxes everywhere, we will be hosting a birthday sleepover!!! Calgon take me away!!! Seriously though....God won't give me more than I can handle!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what my favorite part of second grade will be, but I'm not worried....I know my little darlings will steal my heart!!!
I LOVE second grade! I am starting my 13th year teaching it. I love that they still have that sensitive eager to please side. I love how they still want to learn and get excited about learning new ideas. They are nice to each other still and don't have the "popular" worries yet. Best grade ever! Love your blog by the way!

ReplyDeleteI have another way for getting rid of that sticky goo! Hand sanitizer... smear some of that on the goo and rub away! Strangely it works! And there is a pretty good chance that teachers have hand sanitizer around... ;) jennifer.steinacher@meeker.k12.co.us
ReplyDeleteI have taught first, second, and third and second grade is definitely my favorite. I love the age of the kids. They are excited to learn and they soak it all up! tkjadams71@gmail.com

Thanks for the tip about Goof Off! I have also tried everything on my cabinets including Goo Gone and it wouldn't come over. I will have to try this. My favorite think about second grade is how much the children love to learn.

Woohoo! Thanks Amanda and Katie for teaming up (with your blogging buddies) to host the giveaway of these 2 packs. Beginning of year is so exciting...in 2nd grade gotta love that readers get hooked in series books and really get to know characters.
ReplyDeleteStephanie tjoyce@aol.com
I love the birthday treat idea...want to do this for my birthday too! I love how eager second graders are to do everything! karenobleness@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about second grade is that I keep my kids from First grade. I am a Multiage teacher who loves having both grade levels together...The second graders are tremendous oldtimers with leadership skills and maturity! I love how they begin to really think past the obvious especially in reading and comparing stories!
ReplyDeleteLOVE SECOND GRADERS but also FIRST GRADERS!

The 2nd Grade Surprise
2nd grade is magical because the kids begin to own their learning. They get so invested in what is being taught and are excited to learn. I get to watch my little ones take responsibility of what is happening in their learning and really care about our classroom community. They grow right infront of your eyes and they love school. I always say that I'm a better person because I get to be a part of their lives each day.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing bundle and I would LOVE to win it.

I love teaching second grade because my kiddos really grow and change into independent little beings throughout the year. They make choices about their learning and really take control of themselves as learners. They become more actively involved in the classroom. I LOVE working with 7 and 8 year olds!

My favorite thing ever about second grade is how stinkin' cute and funny these kids are! Seriously makes me day! One time I asked them what 'dialogue' meant and this kid pipes up with "it's when you die on a log". Lol!!
ReplyDeleteWhoops, my email is cpieterman@rogers.com

My favorite thing about second grade is that the students realize everything from kinder and first grade "clicks." All of a sudden they can read and write and they feel like the kings & queens of the primary grades. I guess I love their confidence! :)
ReplyDeletechristy.chalfant@gmail.com
DeleteI teach a 1/2 combo and I love how the 2's really take on the role of leaders for the younger ones.
ReplyDeleteI really have no idea what will be my favorite about 2nd grade because this will be my first year teaching 2nd grade. I have taught 3rd grade for the past 11 years. We start in a couple of days and honestly, I am wondering what I was thinking saying yes to moving to 2nd grade. I do know that I love spending my days with children and watching them grow. This will be the same at any grade level including this year!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about second grade is how the simple thing excites them and in turn excites me to teach them. Like making 3d shapes from toothpicks and marshmallows or when you pull out pAint and doesn't matter that you haven't explained the activity they know they are going to paint and are super excited
ReplyDeleteI love that second graders are at that in-between stage. They are independent, yet they still look to you for guidance. They are becoming their own person, yet they still care about pleasing you. They are developing their own interests, yet continue to get excited about learning just because you are. They are forming their own circle of friends, yet still like to include everyone. They think you (the teacher) are crazy, yet they love you anyway.
ReplyDeleteKerry Miller dlkjmi2005@aol.com
I love second graders! I love how independent they are, yet they are so willing and eager to please their teacher. Most of them haven't gotten to that "sassy" stage yet.

Hi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteLast year I pinned your writing binder/folder blog entry. I thought it was a FANTASTIC idea!! Now that I am beginning to prepare for Day One (September 4th), I revisited and saw your 8/9 entry about revamping and bundling the folder resources. Any chance you got to it this weekend? ;)
One hiccup is that I teach 4th but I am pretty sure there are a number of resources in your folder that would work wonderfully for my munchkins. If you didn't bundle, how can I find your work at Teacher's Clubhouse?
Thanks!!
